Me and cuzin Michele!!

We did it cousin!!! She tore it up! I am so proud of her...she did not train for the race - nor did I - ran through some tough hills, and some crazy distance all with a compromised knee....we are crazy cousins and that's the way we like it!!! All the women on the course loved our pink skirts, gloves, beenies and anything else we found pink to run in.....Go team!!! A lady had a sign around mile 20 that read..."Suck It Cancer!!" I laughed so hard......then yelled "Yea....suck it cancer!!!" We danced and had so much fun that everybody wondered how we were able to do that.
Cause we love eachother, support eachother, and help eachother to take another step forward when we feel like stopping. Michele has always been there for me, and I for her. We've both traveled through some really dark places in our lives, some together, some not.....but we always knew that we could do a race together and somehow everything just felt better after that. I'm still a little scared about what tomorrow holds for me and scared for her and that lump she feels...but I know no matter what life throws at us - we will be there for one another - arms wrapped around the others shoulders - race bib pinned to our shirts - saying "c'mon couzin you can do it..." and we ALWAYS do. Somehow. And after the race and the time spent together laughing - it's always better in the world.

Nike Women's Marathon San Francisco 2007

My cousin Michele and I ran the Women's Marathon today in San Francisco. This is a pic taken Saturday at the check in Expo at Union Square. There's a wall there where you can write down the names of the people who either suffered from or are fighting cancer. We were asked to run in honor of our Aunt Judy who lost her battle to breast cancer. October is breast cancer awareness month - so what a better time to honor another woman who showed strength. This marathon was hosted by Team In Training and I think all the women who ran raised over 18 million for cancer research. How incredible!!! I'm pointing to what I wtote on the wall. It says..." I'm running for Aunt Judy. We love you. Shari & Michele." Turns out I ended up running in honor of many people - my friend Debbie who lost a breast to cancer, my grandfather who lost his life to cancer.....my aunt Donna and Uncle Dave, Aunt Judy, Lupe, my friend Suzanne Mancebo, my sons teacher Michelle Stewart who survived breast cancer.....and my cousin who just found a lump. I'm also facing the fact that I may have mouth cancer.....it's very powerful to run for others because they can't. Some lost their battles but will never be forgotten. Others are still in the fight, some have just started....we are all connected as humans who need eachother. Thanks for the inspiration.........

Warm up run - beautiful!!!

Man - the warm up run for XFit NSC was so beautiful! The air was brisk, the trees are all turning colors and the way Dan Grant headed up the pack started the vibe off to a great start! Everybody that came gave it their all and can't wait to come back. The first seminar will be held in November and I'm sure it will be outstanding.....
