Jumping pullups on the dip bars

She's so tiny we did the pullups on the dip bars - it worked out perfectly! Here I am making sure she comes to full extension at the bottom of the pullups.....Great job today Chloe!!!

Miss Chloe Buttercup

My youngest client. She moves like an angel and is super stoked on CrossFit. She's fun to teach and coach and always tries what I dish out to her. Today she learned how to row, push press and jumping pull ups. She pretty much rules! And she's only 5!!! Just think what she'll be like when she's 10 , or 15!!! Amazing athlete!

They played thre Heat - Shaq's team - we had amazing tickets so we were super close to the guys - they're ginormous! Everybody was in to the vibe of the game and the guys in front of us turned around and hi tened Sarah when the Warriors made the shot that brought them ahead.....we're planning on going back a lot!! We've been to the Sharks and the Warriors within a couple weeks. Next - football!!!!

Santa Cruz Drive-ins Close Down!!

So last weekend was the LAST weekend for the Santa Cruz drive-ins. The only drive ins around here - or even San Jozse for that matter. I saw a while back on the Discovery Channel a special on the drive in culture in the United States. Seems there are only something like 16 left in the ENTIRE USA!!! Now there are only 15 left!! Brendan and I have taken the kids many night to see a show bundled up in the back of his pickup.....tons of snacks.....hot coffee.....just loving it! So, I managed to talk a bunch of CrossFit NSC people to partake in the last weekend and see the Bee Movie with Fred Clause. Okay, so the movies weren't all that - but we made it awesome! I cooked a huge pot of Zoned Turkey Chili, cornbread with honey butter and baked up a large batch of chocolate chip cookies dipped in melted chocolate - and white chocolate macadamia nut cookies dipped in white chocolate with sprinkles......as you can see they were a big hit! Here's Hunter, Brendan, Ronnie and Zack all cuddling in the back of my XTerra eating cookies and milk. How cute are they!!??

L Pull ups.....

So this is an older pic - but I love it so much it deserves a re post!! This is my man Brendan and I doing a crazy L pull up workout. I remember when these were hard for me........not any more. I can do plenty now!

Workout :
"Elizabeth"
21 - 15 - 9

83 pound squat clean
ring dips

Time : 12:13.....

That was a better time than the last time I did it and I used heavier weight and squat cleaned instead of hang cleans.....I'm improving....And I cranked out 13 ring dips before a had to rest. Then I broke em up into sets of 7. I try to do L pull ups every day along with deep dips. I love them!! My hip / knee has been acting up again - well, really ever since the last marathon a couple weeks ago. I'm registered for the Cal international marathon this weekend in Sacramento - but am entertaining the thought that I may have to bail out. I want to hit my goal of finishing in 3:15-3:20 and I haven't been able to train at the high speed intervals I needed to in order to reach my goal time. I can still use my last years finish time of 3:26 to get to Boston Marathon in April - I may just do that. Take this month to completly heal, recharge, and re focus. There have been many distractions in my life and my training has taken a backseat. I'm ready to start back with intense focus and will do so in a month. I'm working on getting my aches better......I know I'm going to tear up Boston!!! I'll keep training CrossFit and get stronger....strict Zone diet....all that jazz....!!!

Shakespere Santa Cruz

Here's Brandon on the Shakespere stage in SC. We went with his class to see The Princess and the Pea and got a backstage tour as well. We had a blast hanging out all day and goofing off. Brendan and I went to see the play "The Tempst" this past summer and the stage in this pic was where it was held in the evening. The redwood trees make a circle and all the chairs were inside the circle....there was little white lights everywhere and we snacked on cheese, crackers and wine while we watched the play. It was very romantic and an awesome night. I've never done that before. I have been doing a lot of new things with Brendan that I have never done before - not even with the husband that i was married 13 years to. Weird .....but so wonderful!!

The CrossFit Certification Seminar took place at our new spot - XFit North Santa Cruz the end of October. We had over 100 participants there and many other trainers from all over checking out our new home. This is a pic of my son Brandon working the store for the seminar. we didn't have much time to make the place look as awesome as we wanted, but the shirts and pants were made and ready for sale. We sold almost all our entire stock and now everybody all over the world will be sporting our new logo and NSC shirts!!

Me and cuzin Michele!!

We did it cousin!!! She tore it up! I am so proud of her...she did not train for the race - nor did I - ran through some tough hills, and some crazy distance all with a compromised knee....we are crazy cousins and that's the way we like it!!! All the women on the course loved our pink skirts, gloves, beenies and anything else we found pink to run in.....Go team!!! A lady had a sign around mile 20 that read..."Suck It Cancer!!" I laughed so hard......then yelled "Yea....suck it cancer!!!" We danced and had so much fun that everybody wondered how we were able to do that.
Cause we love eachother, support eachother, and help eachother to take another step forward when we feel like stopping. Michele has always been there for me, and I for her. We've both traveled through some really dark places in our lives, some together, some not.....but we always knew that we could do a race together and somehow everything just felt better after that. I'm still a little scared about what tomorrow holds for me and scared for her and that lump she feels...but I know no matter what life throws at us - we will be there for one another - arms wrapped around the others shoulders - race bib pinned to our shirts - saying "c'mon couzin you can do it..." and we ALWAYS do. Somehow. And after the race and the time spent together laughing - it's always better in the world.

Nike Women's Marathon San Francisco 2007

My cousin Michele and I ran the Women's Marathon today in San Francisco. This is a pic taken Saturday at the check in Expo at Union Square. There's a wall there where you can write down the names of the people who either suffered from or are fighting cancer. We were asked to run in honor of our Aunt Judy who lost her battle to breast cancer. October is breast cancer awareness month - so what a better time to honor another woman who showed strength. This marathon was hosted by Team In Training and I think all the women who ran raised over 18 million for cancer research. How incredible!!! I'm pointing to what I wtote on the wall. It says..." I'm running for Aunt Judy. We love you. Shari & Michele." Turns out I ended up running in honor of many people - my friend Debbie who lost a breast to cancer, my grandfather who lost his life to cancer.....my aunt Donna and Uncle Dave, Aunt Judy, Lupe, my friend Suzanne Mancebo, my sons teacher Michelle Stewart who survived breast cancer.....and my cousin who just found a lump. I'm also facing the fact that I may have mouth cancer.....it's very powerful to run for others because they can't. Some lost their battles but will never be forgotten. Others are still in the fight, some have just started....we are all connected as humans who need eachother. Thanks for the inspiration.........

Man - the warm up run for XFit NSC was so beautiful! The air was brisk, the trees are all turning colors and the way Dan Grant headed up the pack started the vibe off to a great start! Everybody that came gave it their all and can't wait to come back. The first seminar will be held in November and I'm sure it will be outstanding.....
